Portland Man Guilty of Multiple Bank Robberies Committed
Throughout Oregon and Washington Over Past Three Years

Eugene, Ore. - Dante Peter Dapolonia, 63, of Portland, Oregon entered guilty pleas to multiple bank robberies today before U.S. District Judge Michael R. Hogan. He pled guilty to robbing 10 banks in Oregon and Washington over a three year time span; he also admitted to robbing another 20 banks during this same time period. Dapolonia has been held in custody at the Lane County Jail since his arrest on April 24, 2008.

As part of the agreement, Dapolonia pled guilty to robbing the following banks:

  • April 2, 2005 – Washington Mutual Bank, 2855 Broadway Street NE, Salem
  • August 8, 2005 – Bank of America, 1891 Pioneer Parkway, Springfield
  • January 19, 2006 – Bank of America, 411 Three Rivers Drive, Kelso, Washington
  • March 1, 2006 – US Bank, 11012 Canyon Road, Puyallup, Washington
  • February 26, 2007 – US Bank, 340 NE Beacon Drive, Grants Pass
  • June 12, 2007 – Umpqua Bank, 2870 NW Town Center, Beaverton
  • September 4, 2007 – Washington Mutual Bank, 6495 Tualatin Valley Highway, Hillsboro
  • October 16, 2007 – Bank of America, 1250 Waverly, Albany
  • March 31, 2008 – Bank of America, 1243 Marvin Road, Lacey, Washington
  • April 24, 2008 – Liberty Bank, 5880 Main Street, Springfield

In addition to the 10 robberies listed above, Dapolonia admitted to committing 20 bank robberies in the following cities:

  • 1 in Portland – Washington Mutual Bank on June 25, 2005
  • 2 in Eugene – U.S. Bank on November 5, 2005; U.S. Bank on January 5, 2006
  • 2 in Corvallis – Washington Mutual Bank on November 3, 2005; Umpqua Bank on April 10, 2006
  • 2 in Springfield – U.S. Bank on December 19, 2006; Umpqua Bank on September 28, 2007
  • 1 in Medford – U.S. Bank on August 2, 2007
  • 1 in Roseburg – Washington Mutual Bank on October 12, 2005
  • 1 in The Dalles – Columbia River Bank on December 16, 2006
  • 1 in Cottage Grove – Umpqua Bank on January 4, 2007
  • 1 in Aloha – Bank of the West on January 24, 2007
  • 1 in Hillsboro – Bank of the West on April 16, 2007
  • 1 in Hood River – Washington Federal Savings Bank on May 7, 2007
  • 1 in West Linn – U.S. Bank on October 4, 2007
  • 1 in Albany – U.S. Bank on March 4, 2008
  • 1 in Everett (Washington) – U.S. Bank on January 21, 2008
  • 1 in Tacoma (Washington) – U.S. Bank on March 1, 2006
  • 1 in Chehalis (Washington) – Security State Bank on March 5, 2007
  • 1 in University Place (Washington) – U.S. Bank on March 5, 2008

Unarmed bank robbery carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years supervised release. Under this plea agreement, the U.S. Attorney and Dapolonia have agreed to recommend he serve a 10-year prison term and pay restitution to the banks for their losses in the amount of $87,865 in addition to the $3,038 recovered at the time of his arrest. Judge Hogan scheduled sentencing for October 14, 2008.

Assisted by information from a concerned citizen, Springfield police arrested Dapolonia shortly after he robbed Liberty Bank. The FBI investigated this case with the assistance of local, county, and state law enforcement agencies in Oregon and Washington. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Papagni with the assistance of Oregon District Attorneys and Washington Prosecuting Attorneys.
