Casino Robber Sentenced To Federal Prison
Klamath Falls Man Sentenced as Career Offender
Medford, Ore. - Cody Joe Jonas, 29, Klamath Falls, Oregon, was sentenced on December 1, 2008 to over 12 years in federal prison for the August 9, 2007 robbery of the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino in Chiloquin, Oregon. U.S. District Judge Owen Panner sentenced Jonas as a Career Offender, which enhances the sentence for commission of a serious violent felony after two or more convictions for other serious violent felonies. Jonas has prior convictions for residential burglary, assault and robbery from the state of Washington. The court also ordered Jonas to pay restitution.
During the early morning robbery, Jonas brandished a firearm while giving orders to casino employees and fleeing with $80,050.00. Jonas fled to California where he was subsequently caught by San Diego Police following a high speed chase wherein he endangered numerous members of the public.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Byron Chatfield prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI, the Klamath County Sheriff’s office and the Oregon State Police.
