Man Charged with Making Bomb Threat
Against Woodburn Bank

Portland, Ore.–Christopher Wayne Walker, 24, was charged by Criminal Complaint today with one count of making a bomb threat against a Woodburn, Oregon bank. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Walker was arrested this morning and is currently lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center. He will make his initial appearance before a federal judge in U.S. District Court in Portland on Monday.

According to the Complaint, in the early morning hours of Friday, January 9, 2008, Woodburn Police responded to the scene of an apparent burglary at a Dollar Tree Store in Woodburn. Investigation led them to identify a suspect in that burglary. At approximately 8:45 a.m., Woodburn Police Officers stopped a vehicle belonging to that suspect. During that traffic stop, a man later identified as Walker fled the scene. Approximately 20 minutes later, as officers were searching for him, the Marion County Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call from a man claiming there was a bomb at a Wells Fargo in Woodburn. At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers located Walker in a backyard along West Hayes Street. He admitted making the bomb threat in an effort to elude the officers who were pursuing him.

A complaint is only an allegation of a crime, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin.
