Bicycle Bank Robber Pleads Guilty
EUGENE, OR—The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announce
Douglas Brian Hart, 51, who was charged in a federal indictment with Eugene, Oregon area bank
robberies has entered guilty pleas to three of the robberies before U.S. District Judge Michael R.
Hogan. The maximum sentence for each bank robbery count is 20 years' imprisonment, a
$250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing has been scheduled for
October 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
At the plea hearing Hart admitted to robbing the Pearl Street Liberty Bank of $1,829 on
November 12, 2008; the U.S. Bank located on Willamette Street of $2,223 on November 24,
2008; and the Broadway Street Wells Fargo Bank of $480 on December 5, 2008. Hart was
ultimately apprehended by Eugene police officers a short time after committing the Wells Fargo
robbery when the bicycle he used to flee the scene of the crime collided with a police cruiser.
Hart was in possession of stolen bank money when arrested.
The Eugene Resident Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation successfully
investigated the case with the valuable assistance of the Eugene Police Department and the
Springfield Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney AnneMarie Sgarlata is handling the
prosecution of the case.
