Career Offender Sentenced to 22 Years for Armed Bank Robbery
Defendant Commits Armed Robbery of Roseburg Premier West Bank While on
Federal Supervised Release for 1996 Bank Robbery
EUGENE, OR—Colby Todd Dubose, 46, of Coos Bay, Oregon, was sentenced today to
272 months in prison for an armed bank robbery that occurred at the Premier West Bank in
Roseburg, Oregon on May 21, 2008. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Ann Aiken imposed 188
months in prison for armed bank robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm,
consecutive to a mandatory seven-year (84-month) term for brandishing a firearm during a crime
of violence. A 24-month prison sentence for violating his supervised release for a 1996 bank
robbery conviction was run concurrent to the other sentences.
During the robbery, Dubose displayed a semi-automatic pistol, demanded money and
threatened to shoot the teller. He left the bank with $5,827.00 in cash and pointed the gun at two
witnesses who attempted to follow him. Dubose fled the scene in a get-away vehicle driven by
Julio Arredondo-Morales, who was sentenced earlier this year for his role in the robbery. The
pair led police on a high speed chase through downtown Roseburg, and officers lost the vehicle
when it went the wrong way down a one-way street. While eluding the officers, Dubose threw
the gun and money out of the vehicle. Dubose was ultimately apprehended by Roseburg police
officers.
Dubose was convicted of bank robbery in federal court in 1989 and received an 86-month
sentence for that offense. In 1996, he was again convicted of bank robbery and received a 151-month sentence. Dubose has multiple Oregon convictions, including burglary, theft, and escape.
The case was successfully investigated by the Roseburg Police Department and
the Eugene Resident Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was
prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Sweet.
