FBI Offers $10,000 Reward in String of Jewelry Store Robberies
The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a string of violent jewelry store robberies stretching over three states. The robberies, dating back to June 2007, have netted the robber(s) more than $150,000 worth of jewels. In each case, a robber ordered the employees and customers to the floor while brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun. The FBI and Eugene (Oregon) Police Department are jointly investigating the local robberies.
Most of the jewels have been recovered, including many that the robbers pawned at shops in Portland and Eugene for less than the retail value. In addition, the robbers used what appears to be a stolen Oregon driver’s license to open – and then empty – a bank account in San Francisco using a check taken during one of the robberies.
In each case, the robber appears to have the same description and/or use the same method. The robberies include:
- June 6, 2007 – Beaudet Jewelry – Eugene, Oregon
- August 24, 2007 – Steve Schmier’s Jewelry – Tahoe City, California
- August 28, 2007 – J.P. Chadom Jewelers – State Line, Nevada
- October 6, 2007 – Beaudet Jewelry – Eugene, Oregon
No one was hurt in any of the incidents.
