Suspected Bank Robbery Suspect to Appear in Court
EVAN ISAAC WATSON, age 30, will appear before United States Magistrate Judge John V. Acosta at 1:30 pm on Monday, September 15, 2008, to face two counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery. FBI Agents and Portland Police Officers arrested WATSON late Friday afternoon after a chance sighting of a baseball cap led investigators to him.
Agents were canvassing an area near the three banks when one noticed that a man in a neighborhood park was wearing a University of Utah cap similar to one used in one of the robberies. Details that came out of that interview led agents to WATSON, who was living in a friend's apartment nearby. Portland officers arrested WATSON on an outstanding local warrant, pending the federal charges which were filed with the court this morning. The arrest was without incident.
The robberies included:
- August 18, 2008 – Wells Fargo Bank, 2121 W. Burnside, Portland, Oregon
- August 25, 2008 (attempted) – Bank of America, 221 NW 21st Ave., Portland, Oregon
- August 29, 2008 – Key Bank, 2057 W. Burnside, Portland, Oregon
