FBI Captures “Wrangler” Bandit

FBI agents, working with the Roseburg Police Department, Coquille Police Department, Bandon Police Department and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Gwendolyn Nell Sherbondy, age 46, on Thursday, March 05, 2009. During the service of a federal search warrant at Sherbondy’s Coquille home, Coquille police made a probable cause arrest on a state theft charge pending the federal criminal complaint, which was signed by a judge later in the afternoon. FBI agents took custody of Sherbondy at that time.

The complaint charges Sherbondy with one federal count of bank robbery for her alleged role in the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank branch located at 668 Jackson Street in Roseburg, Oregon, on February 24, 2009. The FBI dubbed her the “Wrangler” bandit because she was seen leaving the scene in a Jeep with the word “Wrangler” painted on the side.  The FBI has not charged her with any other crimes.

Sherbondy will be housed at the Lane County Jail pending a her initial appearance before a federal judge Friday, March 6, 2009, in Eugene.

A complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and the defendant should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
